A Bit of Nature............

While visiting my parents on LI we went to this amazing place that I have gone to since I was a little girl.
It is called the Morton Preserve.  Here, there are trails to walk on through the woods that lead to the beach.  There are no guides and there is nothing commercial about this place.  But the amazing thing is that the birds here have become so used to people that they come and feed right out of your hand!

The chickadee's are the most tame and will fly after you waiting for you to put your hand out with some seeds.

But if you are patient and wait long enough you may even have the thrill of a titmouse or even a nuthatch!

We have even heard of cardinals coming to feast, but alas, we could not coax them.

But the amazing thing that happen just as we were about to leave was the Downy woodpecker that came to my daughter's hand.  What a thrill that was!!

And last but not least there were a few birds that would show up every now and then along the trail and thankfully they did not attempt to land in our hands!!!

The Morton Preserve, a wonderful place for making lasting memories.

  7. Hi Kim,
I just love this post. Your photos are fabulous! Getting the birds to eat out of your hand is one thing, but getting them to do it while you snap their photo? Thanks for sharing your special day. I've been out gathering treasure, stop by and take a look next time out and about.
